Pharmacist Service Expansion Project

Online Grant Application & Registration

MPA is in contract year four of the Pharmacist Service Expansion (PSE) grant project with the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS), in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Contract year four runs from June 30, 2017 through June 29, 2018.

The PSE Project allows pharmacists to apply for a grant funding* to cover program participation costs for Medication Therapy Services (MTS) and disease-specific programming (supporting MTS certified pharmacist certification renewal). Additionally, grant funds are available for Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) site accreditation, including new funding for the DSME facilitator support grant which reimburses for operations and administrative support to achieve site accreditation. Participants pay the program or process costs upfront. Then, if your grant application is accepted and all requirements are completed, you receive reimbursement.

*Grant funds are limited to pharmacists (pharmacies if applicable) licensed and practicing in the state of Missouri. Grant funding will be awarded on a first come-first served basis and be based upon application review criteria, including the potential to support medically underserved areas; must complete a program according to the individual program guidelines, within the current contract year, to receive reimbursement.

PSE Program Goals

  1. Increase the number of trainings for Missouri pharmacists to become certified or re-certified in MTS.

  2. Increase the number of Missouri MTS certified pharmacists and pharmacies with accredited DSME site accredited programs.

  3. Increase proportion of people with diabetes who have at least one encounter at an accredited DSME education program site, affiliated with a pharmacy.

  4. Facilitate the PSE project’s support of other DHSS programs involving pharmacists.

Required Quarterly Survey

This scholarship grant project requires quarterly aggregated reporting to the Department of Health & Senior Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Your quarterly reporting is completed by simply responding to an electronic survey received via email, following the end of each quarter. Your response documents the value pharmacists offer as a health care team provider and supports our continued efforts pursuing pharmacist-delivered, patient care service payment opportunities.

PSE Project Survey Tracking Document

The following tracking document (Word and PDF versions, below) is to assist with reporting your results quarterly.

Continuing Opportunity

With your continued involvement, the PSE Project offers a platform that can bring state and national attention to Missouri pharmacist-delivered patient care services. Throughout the duration of the PSE Project, updates and data will be shared with engaged stakeholders and active PSE partners, including DHSS and CDC.

Missouri pharmacist data that MPA, DHSS, and CDC would like to showcase include diabetes education provided by a DASPA trained pharmacist, diabetes education provided in conjunction with a DSME pharmacy, and MTM/MTS related patients with high blood pressure or diabetes.
